Many people don’t like the Google AI summaries shows at the top of searches.
These summaries are made by a computer program (AI) and can be wrong sometimes, like that time it said to drink pee for kidney stones (gross!).
You can’t turn off completely yet, but here’s how to avoid them most of the time:
- Use the “Web” search option. This shows search results without the summaries, videos, and other stuff.
- Make a custom search engine (for Chrome on computers):
- Open Chrome settings.
- Find “Search engine” and “Manage search engines”.
- Click “Add” and name your new search engine “Google Web” (or something like that).
- In the URL bar, put {google:baseURL}/search?udm=14&q=%s (copy and paste this exactly).
- Click “Add” and make this your default search engine.
There are also other ways to do this, like using a different browser or installing an extension.
If you’re not in the US, you probably don’t have these summaries yet. But keep this guide handy in case they show up later!
